Arquitectura Viva 217: Snohetta

Snøhetta is the main feature of this issue. Founded in 1989, the Norwegian practice is known for producing architecture that is both efficient and poetic in its precise approach to market demands, yet never loses its roots in Nordic tradition. Respect for the landscape and materials of each context, as well as a firmly entrenched civic spirit, have contributed to Snøhetta’s international success. Four works are profiled here: ‘Under’ subaquatic restaurant, Calgary Central Library, Lascaux IV Caves Museum, and Shanghai Grand Opera House. Also in this issue, a feature on structural timber that spotlights projects by Herzog & de Meuron, Baumschalger Eberle, and Kengo Kuma.
