Discover modern and traditional Balinese styles.

Balinese style villas and resorts are popping up all over the world, from Ibiza to St Barts to Singapore. In this comprehensive guide, author Julian Davison explores the intricacies of Balinese architecture and the recent results of its global popularity.

Traditional Balinese houses, temples and pavilions are designed to harmonize with nature and the forces of the universe. This reflects core Balinese beliefs about an individual's place in relation to the cosmos, the gods, the ancestors and the world around them. You'll soon see why innovative local and international architects have been designing Bali-inspired resorts and villas for decades, drawing their inspiration from a legacy of rich traditions.

The 30 chapters include:

Architecture and Social Status.
Balinese Palaces.
The Archetypical Temple.
Contemporary Hotels and Resorts.
Gardens and Water Features.

This one-of-a-kind book also presents you with detailed information about Balinese belief systems, rituals associated with building, materials and construction techniques, and intricate ornamentation. Over 100 photographs and watercolor illustrations enhance the text and provide a clear picture of the island's architecture as well as an eye-opening look at a culture and a people that have captivated the world's imagination.
