When the old malt factory in Ebeltoft, Denmark, closed down in 1998, plans were made to demolish it for a new shopping centre and parking lot. A group of locals decided to save the iconic red buildings and turn them into a centre for cultural and creative activities. When they held a competition for ideas to revive the Maltfabrikken, Praksis Arkitekter won with their visionary approach and a deep respect for its history. Through extensive photos by Jens Lindhe, and the inclusion of historical materials and interviews, the story of ‘The People’s Factory’ is told through the people that have actively participated in its transformation, and their strong ethos of solidarity.
