This most recent guidebook in the On the Road series explores the complex urban story of Paris, one of the most densely constructed cities in Europe, through its 20th and 21st century architecture. It takes the reader through decades of Parisian architectural history beginning with the great names of the Modernist movement, including Loos, Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer. The 1970s, '80s, and '90s were defined by iconic projects like the Centre Pompidou, the Louvre Pyramid, the Musee d'Orsay renovation, the Parc de la Villette, and the Arab World Institute. The present period is represented by contemporary projects on the outskirts of the city that have transformed lives and neighbourhoods. Included here are 86 itineraries that explore modern and contemporary architecture in the French capital, in addition to a handy folding cover that doubles as a map.
